Crataeva nurvala

The Crataeva Nurvala referred to as Varuna is found in abundance in both in India and Bangladesh and its bark is cut throughout the year and used as a potent herbal medication.

The bark is taken internally for renal calculi, dysuria, helminthiasis, inflammations and abscesses. The bark exhibits carminative, laxative, thermogenic, diuretic, lithontriptic, expectorant and demulcent actions.

In Vedic literature Varuna is as an important herb for use as a blood purifier.
Varuna Bark powder applied on the skin, acts much like the application of mustard oil.It is used in inflammation, and lymphadenopathy.

The tree contains a chemical called lupeol that neutralizes enzymes that cause excessive and painful urination.

Varuna also supports the cardiovascular system by properly maintaining membrane integrity of the endothelial cells of the arteries thereby also supporting blood flow.

Varuna is a lithontriptic that neutralizes glycolate oxidase lessening the production of Calcium oxalate; a chemical compound that forms envelope-shaped crystals ( known in plants as raphides) A major constituent of human kidney stones.

The bark constitutes are ceryl alcohol, lupeol, friedelin, diosgenin and betulinic acid.

Varuna is effective for treating conditions of the urinary organs, infections of the urinary tract, burning micturition, renal ( kidney)and vesical calculi (bladder stones).
